Read the Instructions
First off, let me admit something. I am not very good at carefully reading instructions. I attempted a small improvement project on one of my handguns recently. Instead of carefully reading about how to do it, I watched a YouTube video, thinking, how hard can it be? I wound up in a predicament with a stuck part!
It’s not altogether unlike our lives. If we rush headlong into something, we often find ourselves struggling to make sense of the mess we are in. Things may be ok, but they are rarely great and if they are great, it feels like dumb luck as to how we got there.
If you’d like to learn from my (bad) example above, can I suggest that in life, we ought to read the instructions? God created us. He knows how our lives work best. He has revealed much of this in The Bible. He has even told us as much. In Proverbs 15:14a says, “the heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge.” It is in the knowledge of this life that we know what we ought to do (or not do). We find that decisions are much easier. We find that confusion lessens. And that is by design. It is God’s will that we live according to His instructions.
Maybe this is a good time for you to begin reading your Bible again. Proverbs is full of wisdom and has 31 chapters. There are 31 days in many of our months. Maybe you could read the Proverb for today and see what happens. Whatever you decide to do, know this: God wants you to understand your life by understanding the Bible.
